Package Contents: Includes two (2) Verbena 'Homestead Purple' (Glandularia canadensis) starter plants. Each plant measures approximately 5-9 inches in height. Plants are supplied in a bare-root state for immediate planting.

Vivid Floral Display: Features large clusters of rich, royal purple flowers that bloom profusely from spring until the first heavy frost. The intense color contrasts sharply against the dark green, scallop-edged foliage, creating a dense carpet of color.

Rapid Spreading Habit: Recognized for its vigorous growth rate, this variety spreads up to 3 feet wide in a single season. It functions effectively as a weed-suppressing groundcover in garden beds or as a cascading "spiller" in hanging baskets and tall containers.

Pollinator Support: The trumpet-shaped florets are rich in nectar, attracting butterflies (especially Swallowtails) and bees. Planting this variety establishes a continuous food source for local pollinator populations throughout the growing season.

Heat and Disease Resistance: 'Homestead Purple' was selected for its superior heat tolerance and resistance to powdery mildew compared to other Verbena varieties. It thrives in full sun and high humidity environments typical of the Southeastern US.

Planting Note: Verbena plants have active foliage that may appear wilted or trimmed upon arrival to conserve moisture during transit. The root system remains viable and will generate fresh growth rapidly after planting and hydration.

A Carpet of Royal Purple for Sun-Drenched Gardens

Verbena 'Homestead Purple' is widely regarded as one of the best performing trailing verbenas available. Discovered on an old homestead in Georgia, this vigorous perennial has set the standard for heat tolerance and blooming power. Unlike standard bedding plants that fade in mid-summer, 'Homestead Purple' powers through the heat, covering the ground in a wash of deep, velvety purple blooms from spring until the first hard freeze.

The Ultimate Groundcover If you have a sunny spot where grass struggles to grow or weeds are a constant problem, this Verbena is the solution. It roots wherever the stems touch the soil, creating a dense, low-growing mat that locks soil in place and suppresses weed growth. It is an excellent choice for stabilizing slopes, edging walkways, or filling the front of a flower border.

Versatile Container Performance While it excels in the ground, 'Homestead Purple' is equally effective in containers.

Hanging Baskets: It spills aggressively over the sides, creating a curtain of purple.

Window Boxes: It softens the hard lines of the container and blooms continuously.

Hardiness and Adaptability

Zones 7-10: Grows as a reliable perennial, returning year after year.

Zones 4-6: Functions as a fast-growing annual that delivers a full season of color before winter.

Planting Information These starter plants are shipped bare-root to ensure the health of the crown and root system. Upon arrival, the foliage may look tired from the journey—this is normal. Once planted in well-draining soil and exposed to the sun, they will recover and begin their rapid spread.
