Package Contents: Includes two (2) ‘Margarita’ Sweet Potato Vine (Ipomoea batatas) starter plants. Each plant measures approximately 5-9 inches in height. Plants are supplied in a bare-root state for immediate planting.

Vibrant Chartreuse Foliage: Features broad, heart-shaped leaves in a bright neon lime-green hue. This light coloration provides high visibility in the garden and creates a sharp contrast when planted alongside dark-leaved or red-flowering companions.

Vigorous Trailing Habit: Exhibits a rapid, aggressive growth rate with cascading stems that can trail up to 6 feet or more in a single season. Functions as a dominant "spiller" in large hanging baskets and patio containers.

Heat and Humidity Resilience: Native to tropical climates, this variety is adapted to high heat environments. It maintains active growth during mid-summer when cool-season annuals often decline.

Versatile Landscape Use: Can be cultivated as a trailing container plant or as a dense, fast-spreading groundcover in garden beds. Thrives as a perennial in USDA Zones 9-11 or as a high-performance annual in Zones 4-8.

Planting Note: Sweet Potato Vines have large, soft leaves that lose moisture quickly during transit. Plants may arrive appearing wilted. Submerging the root system in water immediately upon unpacking rehydrates the plant tissues effectively.

Brighten Shaded Corners and Container Gardens

The ‘Margarita’ Sweet Potato Vine (Ipomoea batatas) is one of the most popular ornamental foliage plants available, prized for its ability to inject bright, electric color into any landscape. Its large, heart-shaped leaves are a vivid chartreuse (yellow-green), acting as a natural spotlight that draws the eye. Whether used to brighten a semi-shaded area or to contrast with deep purple plants like ‘Blackie’, ‘Margarita’ delivers consistent visual impact.

The Ultimate "Spiller" In container design, ‘Margarita’ is known for its vigor. It is a robust trailer that cascades elegantly over the sides of pots, window boxes, and retaining walls. Because of its fast growth rate, a single plant can provide significant coverage, making it an economical choice for filling large spaces.

Effective Groundcover Beyond containers, this vine serves as an excellent annual groundcover. Its dense foliage shades the soil, helping to retain moisture and suppress weed growth. It roots at the nodes where stems touch the soil, allowing it to spread and carpet an area quickly.

Hardiness and Care This plant is built for warm weather. It performs best in consistent moisture and heat.

In Zones 9-11: It grows year-round as a perennial.

In Zones 4-8: It is treated as a spectacular summer annual.

Planting Information These starter plants are shipped bare-root. While the foliage may appear limp upon arrival due to shipping stress, the tuberous root system is resilient. Once planted in warm soil and watered, the plant recovers its turgidity and begins pushing new growth rapidly.
