Package Contents: Includes two (2) Concord Blue Streptocarpella (Streptocarpus saxorum) starter plants. Each plant measures approximately 5-9 inches in height. Plants are supplied in a bare-root state for immediate potting.
Distinctive "Floating" Blooms: Produces a profusion of delicate, trumpet-shaped periwinkle-blue flowers suspended on wiry stems. This growth habit creates a visual effect of clouds of flowers floating above the foliage.
Shade Garden Solution: Thrives in partial shade to full shade where many flowering plants fail. It serves as an excellent choice for brightening covered porches, shaded patios, and tree-canopied gardens with constant color.
Versatile Indoor/Outdoor Use: Functions as a trailing annual for outdoor hanging baskets in summer or as a long-lived flowering houseplant year-round. Related to the African Violet, it adapts well to indoor indirect light.
Tactile Foliage: Features small, succulent-like leaves covered in fine, soft hairs, giving the plant a velvety texture. The foliage remains lush and attractive even when the plant is between blooming cycles.
Planting Note: Streptocarpella stems are naturally brittle and succulent. Minor breakage during transit does not impact plant health. Any separated stems can be propagated by inserting them into moist soil to root.
The "Floating" Flower for Shady Spaces
Concord Blue Streptocarpella (often called the False African Violet or Nodding Violet) is a hidden gem in the gardening world. It solves one of the most common landscaping challenges: adding vibrant color to shady spots. While most blooming plants crave sun, this unique variety flourishes in the shade. With our 2-Pack of starter plants, you can create a serene, cooling display of blue on a shaded porch or in a dim corner of your garden.
A Cloud of Periwinkle Blue The magic of this plant lies in its flower presentation. The small, tubular blooms are held high above the foliage on thin, wiry stems. When a breeze catches them, they nod and sway, creating the illusion of a blue cloud hovering over the velvety green leaves. It blooms continuously throughout the warm season, providing months of color.
The Perfect Houseplant Cousin As a relative of the African Violet, Streptocarpella makes an exceptional houseplant. Unlike its cousin, it has a trailing, branching habit perfect for indoor hanging baskets or pedestals. It enjoys the same conditions—bright, indirect light and moderate temperatures—making it easy to keep happy indoors during the winter.
Low Maintenance Beauty
Self-Cleaning: The small flowers drop cleanly when finished, requiring no deadheading.
Drought Resilient: The thick, fuzzy leaves store moisture, allowing the plant to tolerate dry spells better than many other shade annuals.
