How to Acclimate a New Plant to Your Yard
A new plant needs time to adjust from its previous growing conditions to your yard's specific sun, wind, and soil. Acclimating it properly reduces stress and setbacks.
Start With Partial Shade
Even sun-loving plants benefit from a few days in partial shade before moving to their permanent full-sun spot.
Gradually Increase Sun Exposure
Slowly increasing direct sun exposure over 1-2 weeks helps prevent leaf scorch on plants moving from shadier conditions.
Protect From Wind
A sheltered spot for the first week or two helps prevent wind damage while the plant adjusts to outdoor conditions.
Watch for Stress Signs
Wilting, leaf drop, or discoloration during acclimation are normal in small amounts, but should improve as the plant adjusts.
